Carl Rohrs: Estonia: Land of Dancing Letters

Carl Rohrs is a lettering artist and teacher from Santa Cruz, California. He edits & designs Alphabet, the Journal of the Friends of Calligraphy, and was designer and co-editor of the 25th edition of the Speedball Textbook, 2021.
In two trips to Tallinn, Estonia, Carl took many hundreds of photographs documenting the exuberantly original styles of lettering by the close-knit community of Estonian scribes from throughout the 20th century. It culminated in an entire issue of Alphabet devoted to them, but only scratched the surface of what could have been shown. We’ll try to rectify that in a big fat Zoom presentation about the land of dancing letters and their choreographers.
