BASIC ITALIC HAND
with Diane von Arx

Participants should be comfortable with the use of the broad edged pen. This two day Basic Italic Workshop is a forum for participants to spend quality time concentrating on the making of strong Italic letterforms, enjoying the rhythm as we properly space them! It may also serve as a refresher for those who would like to strengthen their Italic hand.  Students will be given basic information on letter shapes and technical instruction on making these elegant letters. Through a series of step-by-step exercises,  participants will familiarize themselves with the basic shapes.  Diane will present demonstrations and have available historical and contemporary exemplars for students to review.  You may bring in samples of yours or other’s Italic hand for open discussion.
