INSIDE KALLIANDRA
with An Vanhentenrijk

Inspired by the caracteristics of Art Nouveau and Roman Capitals, my Kalliandra script is comprised of only organic lines with pressure and release in unusual places - no straight nor parallel lines, no symmetry, only the importance of the spacing. There is not just one alphabet but every letter has many variations by changing the slant of the strokes and the spacing. Because the script is challenging to read, I write it in circles and other geometric forms thus providing unique images. We will create these letters with the pointed nib, and also with the folded pen and cola pen, learning the organic lines and basic Kalliandra letterforms. Throughout the workshop we will experiment with variations by changing pressure, spacing and the slant of the strokes. We will write the letters in geometric forms and use color to dynamic effect. I will guide you through this exciting adventure with many exercises and examples. Together we will discover new and creative uses of and letterforms with the pointed and folded pens.
